Kane Lee leaves Rovers.
The forward informed the club following the weekend defeat at Sutton Coldfield that the decision has been one he’s been pondering on for quite a while.
In a short statement Lee explained his reasons for leaving saying: “My time at Gresley has come to an end. This is the hardest decision in football I’ve ever had to make and to say I’ve been with Gresley for 7-8 years through the ups and downs I can honestly say I’ve been very loyal during that time.

"I’ve always said to myself the day I stop enjoying football is the day I either move on or stop all together and I feel it’s that time now. I’ve been feeling it a while and way before the new management came in and have been just riding it out to see how things go. I feel now is the time and I hope everyone at the club understands and accept it. Who knows what holds for me in the future but for now I feel it’s the best decision for me so I can start enjoying football again.
I wish Gresley nothing but the best moving forwards”.
Chairman Gary Norton commented “We are saddened to see Kane leaving the club, especially as he came through the ranks here.
He’s not enjoyed things at all this season and previously told us he would give it time to see if that changed but unfortunately, he’s decided to move on. Whilst the timing isn’t ideal, we wish Kane all the best and thank him for all he’s done whilst here. He will be welcome back anytime”.
Norton continued “Recent results won’t have helped his decision of course but speaking to him this morning he stressed to me this was nothing to do with our current situation and he had been thinking this for a long time and well before our recent managerial change”.
He added “It’s very tough going at the moment for us on the pitch and of course the recent results having been really disappointing. As such, we are always going to see people piling on the pressure on social media. Supporters rightly expect better, and we remain positive that those results will come. As a club we decided to make a change for a variety of reasons and regardless of recent results fully back Marc and the rest of his team to turn things around moving forwards”
“We have been in far worse positions on the pitch over the years and bounced back and this time won’t be any different, I’m sure. The key thing is that everyone sticks together and keeps supporting the team and I know most of our supporters will do just that”.
