Gresley Rovers’ return to action after a three-week lay off was in the lap of the gods today.
Rovers are due to meet top-of-the-table Oldbury United in the quarterfinals of the Bank’s League Cup at the Moat Ground tonight (7.30pm).But first their rain soaked pitch had to pass a lunchtime inspection. Secretary Peter Jenkinson said this morning: “At the moment the pitch is just abut playable although it is very heavy in the centre. It all depends on whether we get much more rain.”
Rovers have not played since their FA Vase replay victory over RSSC Ransomes at the Moat Ground on December 19.
They were not given any Bank Holiday fixtures and Saturday’s game at Tividale was postponed because of a waterlogged pitch.
Frank Northwood adds goalkeeper Bob Aston to the squad named for Saturday’s game as Karl Austin has to travel up from his Oxfordshire home.
Oldbury are in a jubilant mood after Saturday’s 4-2 at title rivals Tamworth shot them to top spot in the league.
