A huge question mark hangs over the future of Gresley Rovers’ goalkeeper Karl Austin.
The Moat Ground star, currently living in Oxford, pulled out of the midweek game against Halesowen Harriers only two hours before the kick off – and Rovers haven’t heard from him since. Now Rovers are desparately trying to sign a new keeper in time to register him for next week’s FA Vase clash at RSSC Ransomes because their only other experienced player, Bob Aston, is cup tied.
Secretary Peter Jenkinson said today: “If the manager can’t pull off a signing tonight, we have a real problem unless we hear from Austin.”
It is the third time this season that Austin has caused a headache for Rovers’ boss. In the summer he failed to report for pre-season training and later delivered a bombshell by announcing he was going to America.
His hopes of playing indoor football fell through, however, and he returned to the Moat Ground.
Northwood rings the changes for tomorrow’s game at Wednesfield Social (2.15pm).
Guy Hall is axed from midfield and full back John Bottomley is also likely to be a casualty after the 3-1 defeat against Halesowen.
