Jamie Barrett Fundraiser update
More details of the fund raising game being held at the Moat Ground have been released ahead of the game on Sunday and a whole host of ex Derby County legends are going to be in attendance to offer their support for the cause.
The two sides involved in the charity game will be a “Jamie Barrett team mates XI” managed by current Gresley boss Gary Norton taking on a “Jamie Barrett’ s Friends XI” managed by Roger Davies. Due to the overwhelming response of players wanting to show their support and be involved in the game the decision has been taken to play the match in 3 x 30 minute thirds. In addition to ex Derby County legend Roger Davies a number of other Rams favorites will be coming to show their support with the likes of Roy McFarland, Archie Gemmell, Kevin Hector, Marc Edworthy and Michael Johnson all reported to be attending.

Co-organiser Gay Norton told the club's website, “The interest in the game has been simply amazing and it just goes to show how Jamie and Leanne’s story has touched the hearts of so many people. In addition to that the non-league football community have really pulled together and we have had lots of donation promises from a number of clubs on the circuit which goes to show just how highly Jamie is regarded from his footballing friends and peers.”

He added, “When we put the call out to Jamie’s team mates both past and present I was expecting a good uptake but not this good. So many people want to be involved which is fantastic and to ensure we can accommodate everyone who wants to play we have switched the format to three thirty minute thirds. Also the opposition team of Jamie’s friends being put together by fellow organisers Ben Kelly Wally and Danny Dunne have had similar interest levels which is just brilliant. Everyone taking part in the game will be donating £20 each to the cause which will give the fund raising efforts a big boost which of course is the main thing.

“In addition to game we have had some fantastic raffle prizes donated and I’m genuinely blown away by the generosity of so many people, it really has been brilliant and donations and promises are still coming in. With most of the prizes donated we will be holding a fund raising raffle with tickets priced at £5 but we also have a number of very good items that have been donated for auction after the game in the club house with bidding in advance available on the day. We want to raise as much money as possible for the cause so I’m really hoping people will get behind our efforts and support the event in person on the day. If the interest shown so far is anything to go by we will have a good few hundred up supporting the event which would be fantastic and I know will be hugely appreciated by Jamie, Leanne and their respective family’s.”

The game kicks off at 3pm with gate opening around 1.45pm and entrance is £4 adults and £1 children. The Bar will be open for the duration of the event and hot food and drinks will be available to purchase for anyone attending the event. For anyone attending who hasn’t been to the Moat Ground before please be aware that car park space is limited so visitors may need to use the surrounding streets to park their vehicles.
