Cinderford Town pre-match news
“If we want to stay in the top six we have got to beat the teams around us. Tomorrow’s game is very important for us because Cinderford have a similar record to ours and are right on our heels. They are going well and have improved a hell of a lot. It’s going to be a tough game” so said manager John McGinlay about tomorrow’s opponents at the Moat Ground (3.00pm).
It looks likely that McGinlay will keep with the side that beat Cirencester Town on Wednesday.He is still without Ian Bluck (hamstring), Jake Fairbrother (knee) and Andy Bourne (knee) with striker Simon Tucker still being troubled by a back complaint that saw him visit a chiropractor on Thursday.
Chris Gray will be pushing for a start after shaking off a virus while the two new signings Aidan Callan and Dave Whittaker almost certain to start the game.
Keeper Saul Deeney will play his last game for Gresley tomorrow as the loan period ends after the game. McGinlay said of Deeney; “ Saul’s loan is up tomorrow and I can’t see it being extended purely because of finances. While he as been at Gresley he has done really well. We are unbeaten with him in goal.
“It would be great if we could finish on a high because he has been brilliant. In the Derbyshire Cup final he was outstanding and it would have been great for him to be involved in the final. However, we have another keeper who is equally as good and can’t wait to get back.
“James Lindley played for the reserves last week and will probably be back in the first team for our game against Rocester next Saturday.”
Another keeper on the comeback trail is Mark Sheils who will be back to full fitness in a week or two. Mark is expected to play for the reserves in their match at Bloxwich United in the Challenge Trophy. This will be his first game since injuring his knee at the end of last season.
McGinlay said of the young keeper; “It’s nice to see Mark back in action and in two or three weeks time there is no reason why he can’t be pushing for a place in the first team.”
