Gaz Norton's Reserve Team News
What a good weekend it was with both the Reserves and the 1st team recording victories.
Well done to John and the lads on that result and also the penalty shootout victory against Ilkeston Town in the Derbyshire cup Semi Final. Lets make sure we bring the cup back to the Moat ground. Our win on Saturday in the Challenge Trophy was made difficult by ourselves. In the first half the ball was like a hot potato and despite the vast wind behind us and despite taking a 3rd minute lead through Jenko, we found ourselves 2-1 down at half time. James Lindley made his return to action after injury and was blameless for both goals although personally I though he could have reacted to stop the point blank bullet of an own goal from yours truly !!!!
We pushed for an equaliser in the second half and didn’t look like getting one until Ryan Yearsley popped up with an 87th minute equaliser from an excellent centre by James Lewesly. Mykey Price proved to be the Rover hero with two goals in extra time against his former club to book a place in the next round this Saturday away at Bloxwich United. Although not a goalscorer, I singled out Earl Alexander after the game for praise. Earl was awesome and in that sort of form, if he can do it consistently, it will warrant him getting a chance in the 1st team squad soon. Watch out Chrissy Gray !
A couple of trialists played in the game. Sean James has joined the club recently and scored on his debut at Bloxwich last week. Sean is a left sided player who used to play for St Albans and is hoping to force his way into Johns squad. Dan Miccichi played in midfield and looked impressive. Dan is a mate of Simon Tucker’s and again is hoping to impress John, Alan and Andy.
