Stapenhill Pre-Match News
Gresley FC travel to near neighbours Stapenhill tonight continuing to run the season’s Reserve team players.
Defender Kane Jellyman has been training with the team over the last few weeks as has winger/forward Aaron Cole but both were unavailable to play in Saturdays game against Thringstone. James Frost, Cam Steele and Goalkeepers Connor Byrne and Ben Allsop complete the list of trialists included in tonight’s squad.

In addition a number of last season’s successful reserve team players continue to get an opportunity to show what they can do. Connor Ward, Zaki Evans, Josh Garland are again included in the squad in addition to the already signed Albert Lansdowne and Jake Macintosh all who impressed on Saturday. Kane Lee and Zack Hill also stars from last season’s reserve team are recovering from injuries. Dexter Morris Clarke (foot) Eric Graves (work) and Alex Steadman (personal commitments) will also be unavailable for tonight’s game.

Manager Gary Norton speaking about pre-season said. “We have a lot of competition for places hotting up around the squad at the minute and that’s great and of course just how it should be. Interest in us this summer has been overwhelming and we are at the point where we have had to tell a number of trialists already that we won’t be able to promise them regular football and to look for clubs elsewhere. As I said in our recent fans forum our intention is to give a number our local and reserve lads from last season the chance to show what they can do and from what we have seen to date some of them will be involved regularly this season”

Norton added “There will however be a few Reserve lads that perhaps made first team appearances last season who will have to be realistic with their expectations this season. Whilst we want to ensure those lads good enough to play at this level get an opportunity the reality is that some of those who made appearances last season in whatever circumstances are not yet ready to play regularly at this level of football. Myself and the rest of the backroom team have some tough decisions to make in the coming weeks but that’s part of the job for everyone at this stage of the pre-season.
