Gaz Norton's Reserve Team News
Due to recent postponements we have only managed to get 3 games in since the turn of the year which has obviously been frustrating to all involved with the Reserves.
The latest game was last Saturday when an entertaining game saw us end up winning 3-2 here against Bilston Town Reserves. It was pleasing to play the game, especially considering that on Friday night the game was a major doubt. Its probably a prudent time to pay a special thanks to the ground staff whom always work tirelessly on the pitch. Its been very hard for them of late due to the amount of wet weather we have had and its not easy between games to have the time to get the pitch ready. Thanks to all concerned for all your efforts from the Reserve Team.
The game was an exciting affair and was won with goals from Jon Jenkinson, Chris White and Alex Hemming. Chris’s 25 yard drive was an excellent effort and his 1st for the club in his 1st appearance for the Reserves since he joined. His attitude and effort during the game went very down well and I hope the game gave him the confidence to do well in the 1st team when his next opportunity arises.
Our next game is in fact to-morrow night away to Highgate Utd in the Challenge Trophy with the winners going through to meet Bloxwich Utd in the next round on Saturday. Lets hope we can win, otherwise it will be another weekend of inactivity for us.
A big well done goes to James Lewesley on his call up to the 1st team to make his debut last week in the place of the injured Andy Cheetham in the 0-0 draw at Redditch Utd. “Jim” did very well and hopefully has now got the belief that he can do it at the next level. Lee Withers has also been in the 1st team squad recently and although yet to make his debut, I’m sure it will not be long before he and one or two others are getting a chance to test their ability.
