Statement From Gary Norton
Gary Norton has issued the following statement.
Following Damian’s resignation immediately after today’s game it was decided by the board at short notice that I take over first team affairs for the remaining 3 games of the season at Stamford (Mon) Carlton (Wed) and Market Drayton (Sat).

Ex Gresley captain Carl Slater, and Reserve team duo Todd Foster and Rich Jarvis will assist me for the remaining games.

For reasons I fully respect the majority of the current first team squad game have made the decision that they won’t play in the remaining games of the season which makes an already difficult job even more so.

Our immediate task is to ensure we have a squad to take the field at Stamford on Monday night and work starts on trying to pull that together at short notice with immediate effect. Due to the Evo-Stik signing deadline for players being the end of March we are unable to register anyone new on first team forms for the remaining games.

As an existing board member I can assure all of our supporters that we will be doing all we can to ensure we fulfil our remaining first team and reserve obligations and together with Carl, Todd and Richard will be working tirelessly over the coming week to ensure just that.

The remaining 3 games present an excellent opportunity for some of our Reserve and U18 players who are on first team forms to continue their development and show us what they can do but I’m also mindful that our Reserve team can also win the league so having Todd and Jarv onboard their knowledge of the Reserve squad will be vital with our overall goals in mind.

The club are in a transitional period at the moment but as we always have we will navigate our way through it over the next week/close season. Thanks as always for your support.

Please note Gary Norton would like to state that contrary to developing speculation on Social Media the player's decision not to play is NOT financial but is based on their commitment and loyalty to Damion.
