Simon Van De Brouke's Reserve News
It’s the same old story. Non conversion of chances at one end and sloppy defending from set pieces at the other. The 1-1 draw last Saturday at home to Willenhall was yet another game where we have been in command only to let it slip in disappointing fashion, This is becoming an all to familiar story for the Reserves.
However, these are areas that myself and Gary are trying to work on at training and in our team talks, but once the whistle has blown, its down to the 11 players on the pitch and we feel that several players are currently hiding behind their early season form. This will not do and we will be addressing the situation. On a more positive note, Although not match fit, I felt the introduction of Gary to the starting line up gave us some much needed presence in the air plus that bit of experience which can only be of benefit to our young squad.
It was also good to see Jon Jenkinson notch his 1st Reserve team goal since his return to the Moat ground, well done Jenko, lets hope there’s more to follow.
Last but not least, we would like to congratulate Lee Withers on his call up to the 1st team squad for the Derbyshire cup fixture against Glossop in midweek. At the time of writing the result is not known but I’m sure if Lee was involved he will have done his selection justice. Lee is a lad with a big heart and a great attitude and his consistent form this season has been testament to that.
Our game on Saturday is at Bloxwich who's Reserve team have continued in competition despite the resignation of their 1st team from the league. We are obviously hoping for 3 points but more importantly is that the lads play well and learn from recent poor performances.
All the best.
