Southport news
John McGinlay will have a full squad to choose from for tomorrow’s game at Southport if Michael Moore comes through Thursday night’s training without any adverse reaction from his knee injury.
Moore picked up his knock during the 2-0 victory at Swindon Supermarine last Saturday.

McGinlay said: “Moore trained Thursday and as long as there is no reaction he will be fine for the game tomorrow. Stuart Evans could be in contention. He was rested last week and has trained twice since although I can’t say he will go straight back into the side.”

Ryan Ford will play his last game for Gresley Rovers before returning to Notts County after his loan period. Ford has missed the last two games following a car accident returning home after training on Boxing Day.

Will McGinlay play Barry Woolley up front? That’s the question all Gresley fans are asking but McGinlay is playing his cards close to his chest and will keep his opposite number, Southport’s Paul Wilson guessing.

“I played Barrry up front as a one-off last week but I’m not revealing what I’m going to do tomorrow. I may decide to spring one or two surprises, I’ve still to finalise my plans.”

“Southport are a good side and are in a rich vein of form – they thrashed Leigh RMI 5-0 last Saturday – and are lying fourth in the Conference.

“Everything about Southport is better than us but if the occasion does not get to our players and we catch them on an off-day then who knows?

“This will be the biggest game some of the boys have ever played in and they are all looking forward to it. It’s a chance for them to make a name for themselves and the biggest thing is that they do not let themselves down.

“If we try to play football against Southport they will play us of the park. But that’s not to say we cannot cause an upset because all it takes is for us to play a little bit better and them to be below par.

“Results like Bristol Rovers’ win over Derby County in the FA Cup give us a lot of hope."
