Jamie Barrett - Captain Fantastic
Jamie Barrett
Today, October 14th marked a special day for Gresley FC's captain Jamie Barrett as he beat the 13-year-old record held by Gresley Rivers legend 'sir' Richard Wardle of 624 games in a Gresley shirt.
Jamie made his debut against Racing Club Warwick at home on 20th August 2002 playing in midfield. He left the club for a very brief period joining Hednesford but returned to Gresley in September 2005. He also joined Mickleover Sports and Bromsgrove Rovers when the original Rovers side broke up as the club hit financial problems in December 2008.However, a change of heart saw Jamie return to the club and played his last game for Rovers at the end of that fateful season on 18th April 2009.
After the demise of Rovers, Jamie was one of the first to sign for the new club Gresley FC but now as a central defender and made his 'second' debut against Radford on 11th August 2009 in the East Midlands Counties League and has been ever present since. Jamie has won many accolades including manager's player of the year and supporters' player of the year and in 2014 had a spell as assistant manager.
But the best accolade comes from previous and present management, board members and supporters alike that Jamie is 'Mr Gresley' a reliable and hardworking member of the club and fully deserves his status a true Gresley legend.
Long may it continue.
