Gresley goal king Brian Beresford is on course for an amazing Bank’s League Cup comeback.
The 40-goal striker, injured in Easter Monday’s 2-2 draw at Atherstone, was today given the all clear to resume training – just in time to stake his claim for a place in Monday’s final. The news was just the boost Rovers needed as they enter a vital weekend programme.
Victory at Wolverhampton United tomorrow (3 pm) is vital for their hopes of finishing as runners-up in the Banks’s League for the second year in a row.
And it would be the icing on the cake of a tremendous season of success if Frank Northwood’s men could beat deadly rivals Atherstone in Monday’s final at the Lamb Ground, Tamworth (7.30 pm).
Northwood’s hopes were dealt a crippling blow when ‘keeper Karl Austin was ruled out for the rest of the season after entering hospital for a facial operation.
But the return of Beresford could swing things back in Rovers’ direction.
Richard Gregg, the former Mossley ‘keeper deputises for Austin tomorrow.
Northwood also brings back Gary Stevens after injury.
