Rovers call on Parry

Gresley Rovers manager Frank Northwood tonight gambles on the abilities of an unknown and untried striker to keep alive his team’s bid for Banks’s League honours.
With striker Martin Devaney unavailable through work commitments, Northwood plunges 25 year-old Des Perry into his forward line for the visit of Halesowen Harriers (7.30pm).Parry, from Leicestershire Senior League Division One club St Andrews, has been recommended to Northwood by the same scout who recently brought defender Nick Sales – rated by the Rovers boss as a brilliant performer in Saturday’s win over Hinckley Athletic – to the Moat Ground.
Northwood said last night: “Parry is a big centre forward who played along side Roger Davies for the Leicestershire select eleven.
“He’s got 36 goals this season, so we’re hoping he’ll do the business for us tonight. With defender Ian Earley, substitute on Saturday, also unavailable Northwood is likely to keep an unchanged team apart from replacing Devaney with Parry.
Winger Kevin Banton, who made a successful return to the reserves after a lengthy absence with a stomach injury, is one of three players in contention for the substitute’s shirt.
