O'Connell Out For Season
Kieran O'Connell
The club have been informed that sadly Kieran O'Connell will be out for between 9 and 12 months due to an injured knee he suffered in the first pre-season game.
After a recent MRI scan it has been confirmed that Kieran tore his ACL (Anterior Cruciate Ligament) which will require surgery to repair. It is also suspected that another ligament may also be damaged. This will be investigated during the surgery which Kieran is now waiting to have scheduled.Manager Wayne Thornhill said: "Unfortunately we've had confirmed what we suspected. It's a big blow for Kieran himself but also for the club. Kieran was an influential member of our squad and could turn a game for us. He was also a very popular player with the fans not only at this club but other clubs as well. He'll be sorely missed and we all hope the surgery is successful and that we will see him playing once more for Gresley."
Now the injury has finally been diagnosed and Thornhill knows that one of his key players will be out for the season he will now begin to try and find a replacement which will be a difficult task with the season just two weeks from starting.
Everyone at Gresley wishes Kieran a speedy and successful recovery and that he will return to playing again as soon as possible. It is hoped that Kieran will still be seen at the Moat Ground during his rehabilitation.
