Atkins Leaves The Moat
Ross Atkins
Goalkeeper Ross Atkins played his last game for Gresley today in the 1-1 draw with Stafford Rangers. Atkins is to join Conference North outfit Leamington FC.
Manager Wayne Thornhill said: "We are sorry to see Ross go. He's been excellent for us but we knew when he signed in late September that we may not have him for long. He'd turned down some good offers to play for us but the offer Leamington has made him is so good he cannot turn it down and they play two levels higher that Gresley."Ross and his wife are expecting a baby very soon and this is an opportunity he cannot ignore. I've told him that should things not work out at Leamington, Gresley's door will be open for him to return. I and the club wish him all the very best for the future."
Thornhill went on to say: "I'm now actively looking for another goalkeeper. I have a few irons in the fire and hope to sort something out soon. We have Tom Turner and Alex Townsend so we have experienced keepers at the club."
