Gresley Rovers’ striker Brian Beresford is back in full training after a two-month battle to shake off an ankle injury.
Beresford, whose 38 goals last season made him one of the most feared marksmen in the Banks’s League, missed the first week of Rovers’ preparations for the new campaign – but now believes he is on the road to recovery.

He explained: “I’ve been receiving treatment from a specialist in Wolverhampton since the end of last season and it’s taken this long to sort out the problems.

“To be honest I damaged the ligaments towards the end of last season and probably shouldn’t have played in the final few games.

“At the time, though, we were going for runners-up spot and I wanted to play my part. It meant that the torn ligaments never got a chance to heal and I decided it was time I saw someone who specialises in treating this type of injury.”

This week Beresford was able to join his team-mates in a tough training session and is confident that he will avoid a repeat of last season when he missed the opening games, also because of an ankle injury.

He said: “We had such a good season last time that everyone is really looking forward to giving it a go for the title. I’m feeling much better than I’ve done for some time and I’m hoping that I’ll be fully fit in time for the pre-season friendlies.”
