Northwood makes first swoop

Gresley Rovers manager Frank Northwood has completed his first close season signing – and learnt that two key players plan to stay with the club.
Northwood has stepped into the transfer market to snap up 21-year-old midfield player Mark Sparrock from Banks’s West Midlands League colleagues Tividale. The Gresley boss said: “I’m delighted that Mark has agreed to join us. He’s a player I’ve had my eyes on for a couple of years now. He’s a very useful player to have in the squad because he can play in more than one position.”
Northwood’s preparations for the new campaign have also been boosted by the news that the talented full back Ian Earley and striker Brian Beresford, last season’s leading scorer with 38 goals, intend to stay at the Moat Ground.
Neighbours Stapenhill were hoping to lure Earley to Edge Hill, but the Derby-based player has re-signed for Rovers.
And Beresford has rejected the chance to join ambitious Tamworth.
Northwood said: “Both players have let it be known that they want to stop at Gresley and that has got to be good news for the club.”
