New Secretary
Ian Collins
Gresley Football Club has appointed Ian Collins as their new club secretary having joined from near neighbours Borrowash Victoria.
Ian had been secretary for the Vics for almost 30 years and for the last seven years also took the role of treasurer. Affectionately known to many in the local non-league circles as Chunky, Spondon based Ian was also a local referee for ten years and is regarded as one of the best football administrators.Having joined the Moatmen Ian is now looking forward to getting into the job where he will join Gresley stalwart Reg Shorthouse who now takes on the role of match day secretary.
Chairman Barry North had been trying to get Ian to Gresley for five years and commented: "I have finally got my man! I never ever thought he would leave The Vics. I cannot express how pleased I am to have secured the services of one of the best football administrators in non-league football and in my opinion the best football secretary in Derbyshire.
"I personally know it has been a great wrench for Ian to walk away from Borrowash. Ian will take over the work I have been doing for Reg Shorthouse over the last five seasons with the Derbyshire FA, the Football Association and also the admin with the Northern Premier League.
"I have spoken to Reg on several occasions with regard to the brilliant job he does for the club and not just as a secretary but behind the scenes. Reg has been my right hand man but his health as suffered over the last twelve months and he has welcomed the arrival of Ian as it will allow him to slow down a bit and they are both happy to work together for the greater good of the Club."
