Derby County defender on loan
Manager John McGinlay revealed today that he has signed the Derby County defender, Sean Cleary, on a month's loan.
McGinlay was on the brink of signing the Northern Ireland under-18 international a few weeks ago but it came to nothing as a Football League club showed interest in taking him on temporarily. When the deal failed to materialise, McGinlay quickly followed up and the tall defender is included in the squad for the match at Stanford in the Dr Martens Cup second round tonight (Tues).
McGinlay said: "We have some injury problems and a lot of important games coming up. Sean is a defender who can also play in midfield and he wanted to have some first team football. He has said he wants to play competitive football in a men's league to gain some experience, which is good for a youngster to have that attitude and desire. This arrangement will suit us both, as it will help us through the next few games and will help put him in the shop window."
