Slater Back At The Moat
Midfielder and former captain Carl Slater has been recalled to the Gresley squad for the remaining four games of the season.
Slater left the club earlier in the season to join Evostick Premier side Mickleover Sports but then ended up joining Heanor Town in the East Midlands Counties League. However, he remained signed on Midland Alliance League forms for Gresley. He suffered a fractured ankle a few months back but recently returned to full fitness with some fine performances to help Heanor win the East Midlands League title on Saturday.
Gresley have lost just twice in 28 league games since Slater's last start for the club but with Micky Lyons suspended for the next two games and Gareth Langford injured options of recognised and experienced central midfielders for Gary Norton's team are currently limited to Danny Holmes and James Jepson.
In addition, both Holmes and Jepson it has been confirmed today are suspended for the potentially vital final game of the season against Alvechurch at the Moat Ground after thier recent sendings off against Atherstone Town.
Jamie Barrett is struggling with a groin problem whilst Matt Hill who can also play in central midfield is out for the remaining games with a knee problem. With those things in mind and the importance of the remaining games Slater has been brought back to the club as cover.
