Langy Stays
Gareth Langford
Gareth Langford has provided manager Gary Norton and his Gresley FC squad with a huge boost with the news that he will be remaining at the club for the remainder of the season.
The popular and versatile Langford had indicated after last weekend's victory over Stratford Town that he was moving on after failing to hold down a regular place in his preferred position of central midfield. However, after a few days to think things over and speaking with Norton he has been persuaded to change his mind and remain with the club.
Norton was thrilled with the news commenting to Gresley FC online: "Gareth Langford has agreed to remain with the club for the remainder of the season which is fantastic news for us. He's a hugely important member of our squad and losing him would have been like losing three players such is his versatility and value to our squad.
"As a manager, a player with Gareth's flexibility in terms of being able to cover in a number of positions is priceless. He's had some time to think things through over the last few days and chatting to him I think he was genuinely touched by the comments and backing received from both his team mates and supporters alike when news of him moving on came out at the weekend."
Norton added: "Gareth is a hugely popular member of the squad both in the dressing room and with our supporters and whilst we appreciated his frustrations in terms of wanting to play in his preferred position no-one wanted him to leave.
"We have two months of the season left and are still in with a real shout of promotion again so losing someone like Gareth at this stage of the season would have been a blow to our ambitions. Thankfully he is staying with us and as usual whenever he plays in whatever position asked will give us his usual 110%."
