Gardner On Board
Gresley FC have boosted their attacking options this week with the signing of former Coalville Town striker Matt Gardner from Bedworth United.
Gardner was a goalscoring hero for last season's Midland Alliance winners and FA Vase finalists where he netted 78 goals in 57 appearances. Manager Gary Norton commented on his new signing saying: "We have signed Matt to help us with the run in we have in the second half of the season. We have recently had a problem in putting our chances away and Matt could certainly help us in this regard. We have some very good forward options at the club already and whilst we do have other players in the squad who can play up front Matt has a proven goalscoring record at this level.
"He demonstrated this last season when he finished top scorer for Coalville and also the season before when he won the Midland Alliance Golden Boot."
Norton added: "We tried to sign Matt in preseason but in the end he wanted to try his luck at a higher level which we respected him for.
"He said at the time that he would get in touch if things didn't work out and he has been true to his word in contacting us last week. He knows we have been doing very well of late and so he may have to wait for his chance but with the pedigree he has in front of goal we would be foolish not to have snapped him up."
In other news, Aaron Dillon has been loaned to Bardon Hill on a duel registration in order to gain some match fitness as has recent signing Chris Waldrum, who registered for the club last week from Heather Town.
