Gedling MW Pre-Match News
Gresley manager Gary Norton is hoping his side can wrap up the league title tomorrow at the Moat Ground against 4th placed Gedling Miners Welfare in what he knows will be a tough encounter.
Although Gedling cannot win the title themselves now, Norton is in no doubt that they will come to Gresley determined to do well and possibly snatch the runners-up slot.A win would certainly hand Norton's side the title despite Borrowash having two remaining games. Gresley would finish on 90 points and the maximum the Vics could achieve is 88 with two wins. One of Vics two games is against Hinckley whose use of ineligible players has caused this chaotic end to the season.
Although Borrowash gained a point at Hinckley a few weeks ago the league has made the controversial decision to have both Borrowash and Heanor replay the games in which the ineligible Hinckley players were involved. Unfortunately for Heanor that decision gave them no advantage as they were beaten again last night this time by a late third goal deep into injury time meaning Heanor's title hope evaporated with that goal.
The Hinckley versus Borrowash game has yet to be arranged but it could put the title decision on hold should Gresley slip up tomorrow. However, should the Moatmen get a point then mathematically for Borrowash to snatch the title they would have to win both their remaining games and score an incredible 25 goals to overhaul Gresley's vastly superior goal difference.
Norton has just one doubt for the game with Tom Betteridge suffering a slight calf strain picked up in their superb away win at Holbrook on Wednesday.
