Gresley FC Announce New President
Gresley Football Club is delighted to announce that Michael Knight has been appointed the new President of the club whilst George Sutton and Harry Southern have become Vice-Presidents.
The club's last President Gordon Duggins passed away earlier this year aged 77 and so the club have now named his replacement. Before retiring Mike Knight was the owner of Rink Print on Rink Drive, Swadlincote and is a familiar face at the Moat Ground. He was particularly supportive when Gresley FC was being formed in the 2009.George Sutton has been associated with the club for many years in various roles and his contribution in overseeing the ground and ground staff is especially valued. George, a retired local businessman, will also continue as a Director of Gresley FC.
Most people who have visited the Moat Ground over the last 30 years will know Harry Southern as he is the Social Club Steward. He has continued in this role over recent years despite his wife Kath's ailing health. Officials have lightened the load on Harry this season so that he doesn't have to attend reserve and youth team games.
The Vice-Chairman of Gresley FC, Barry North, said, "By naming Mike Knight as President , George Sutton and Harry Southern as Vice-Presidents we are acknowledging the contribution these people have already made but hope we can learn further from their experience as we move forward."
"Many of us are only too aware as to how this football club is infectious and becomes an important part of you very quickly. I'm sure that's the case for these three gentleman and they'll be contributing whatever they can for many more years to come."
