Blenkinsopp Back At The Moat
David Blenkinsopp
David Blenkinsopp has become Gresley FC's second signing this week after his departure from Sutton Coldfield Town and should be included in the squad to face Radcliffe Olympic at the Moat Ground on Saturday (3pm).
The former Coventry City and Nuneaton Borough striker originally joined Gresley Rovers in November 2006 and scored 39 goals in 66 games before leaving in 2008 together with most of the squad when the clubs UniBond league playing budget was completely axed. He rejoined the reformed Gresley FC towards the end of last season from Halesowen Town and went on to score 16 goals in just 12 games. He then Joined the Royals in the summer.Blenkinsopp has been persuaded to return to the club by Gary Norton with the Gresley Manager hopeful that he will be able to hang onto the popular striker for the remainder of the season.
He explained: "We have been speaking to David all week after learning that he would be leaving Sutton Coldfield and now he has finally signed his release forms he has agreed to sign for us again. He has had a few other clubs also contacting him this week after his signature and no doubt some will continue to tempt him away.
"However, he's opted to join us and we are understandably delighted with that and we hope he settles quickly and decide to stay with us for the rest of the season. Both David and his family love it here at Gresley and I think that this was a big factor in David agreeing to return.
"Our players, supporters and directors will be excited at the news and I'm sure they will all make him feel very welcome at the club once again. We have worked very hard this week to make this happen and as I've said we're hopeful he will quickly settle back into the club and start to enjoy his football again as he has done previously."
