Woolley Back At The Moat Ground
Barry Woolley

Barry Woolley

After the disappointment of this week's FA Cup exit, manager Gary Norton has some positive news for supporters after tonight completing the signing of 6ft 4ins experienced central defender Barry Woolley.
The 32 year old returns to the Moat Ground after two previous spells at the club under the Gresley Rovers name.

Wooley originally joined Rovers in 2001 under then manger John McGinley before following McGinley to Ilkeston Town after the Scot was appointed as manager there. Spells at Worcester City, Hinckley United, Ilkeston again, Bromsgrove Rovers and Stafford Rangers followed before he joined Stratford Town at the start of the 2009 season where he was captain until leaving recently due to become tired of the travelling.

Wooley rejoined Gresley for a short spell in late 2006 on loan from Hinckley. In his two spells with the club he made 100 appearances scoring 18 goals.

Norton has been tracking a few potential new signings recently and is delighted that his patience has finally been rewarded. He said: "We have been looking for a player of Barry's calibre for a while so we are delighted that he has agreed to join us. We would have liked him to have joined us last year but he was happy where he was at the time we enquired.

"However, I'm really happy that he has decided to join us now especially as there were other clubs after his signature. Not only will he bring a commanding quality and composure to the team in defence which is something we really need he is always going to be a big threat in the opposition box and as such we hope he will chip in with a few goals for us."
