Deposed Gresley Rovers assistant – manager Roger Davies looks set to join Stapenhill.
Swan’s boss Mick Allsopp was the first manager to move for Davies following his release by the Moatmen at the weekend. And the former Derby County, Leicester City and FC Bruges striker has agreed to join the struggling Leicester Senior League club.
A delighted Allsopp said; “It’s tremendous news, the best thing that could have happened to the club. It will give the club a tremendous boost and his experience will be vital to us,” he added.
Davies has played all over the field for Rovers since joining them in the spring of 1984.
But Allsopp has no doubt he will play for Stapenhill.
“I will use him up front. I see him as the ideal partner for Cec Wain and I’m sure he will give us an extra dimension in front of goal.”
Stapenhill currently lie fourth from bottom of the Leicester Senior League but Allsopp reckons Davies’ arrival could spark an up-turn in their fortunes.
“As far as I’m concerned it’s made an enormous difference to the immediate future of the club.”
Davies lost his position as assistant-manager and was released by Rovers at the weekend.
