Royce Rolls Away With Five Awards
Royce Turville made an almost clean sweep of the First Team awards in front of a packed Social Club.
Striker Royce Turville missed what was a memorable evening for Gresley FC and would have been for him personally. He was absent from the presentations due to a prior commitment to a wedding. At the club’s first end of season award night Royce Turville was named:
• Supporters Club Player of the Year
• Players Player of the Year
• Managers Player of the Year
• Received a shield in memory of the late Terry Eyre
• And shared the award, with Jamie Barrett, for the most man of the match performances
The striker who lives in South Derbyshire joined the Moat men from Heather last summer. He scored 21 goals for the first team during a successful campaign which saw the club finish second in the East Midlands Counties League and reach the quarter finals of the FA Vase.
Royce featured so prominently in the end of season awards, as in addition to his goals his contribution to open play has been very impressive.
Gary Norton, Manager of Gresley FC, said, 'Royce deserves this recognition as he is far more that a proven goal scorer. For instance he can hold the ball up so well while other players get into position to give him options.'
'Add to this the fact he (Royce) is a joy to work with and I'm already excited about next season with Royce and other key players committed to Gresley FC.'
Turville, said, ‘I had explained to the manager that I couldn't make the event but was getting regular text messages from my team mates.'
'All the awards are special but it is particularly nice to get recognition from my fellow players and the supporters who are such a big part of this club.'
Another first team player to achieve recognition was Brian Woodall who won the Gordon Duggins shield in memory of the Gresley legend who passed away a couple of months ago.
Woodall received the award as he was the clubs leading scorer during the 2009/2010 season and it seemed very fitting after Duggins scored more than 280 goals for the previous club Gresley Rovers.
Jamie Barret was joint winner with Royce for the Man of the Match Award.
