Norton Adds To His Squad
Gresley FC have added more players to its developing squad for the new season.
Brothers Tom and Adam Betteridge have now signed for the club after impressing in the opening preseason fixture at Meir KA last weekend whilst in addition, two of last seasons promising youngsters - Jordi Gough and Callum Keenan have also put pen to paper to remain at the Moat Ground.Former Gresley winger Tom originally joined the club and helped achieve a UniBond playoff final spot in 2006 but then suffered a horrific leg injury early the following season which ruled him out for a long period.
He spent last season at East Midlands Counties League runners up Borrowash Victoria but has now decided to make the switch to Gresley FC for the coming campaign.
Adam meanwhile played for Mickleover Sports last term and can play as either central defender or fullback as well as left wing.
Both Gough and Keenan have had pre-season cut short so far with illness and injury but both attended training this week and have agreed to remain at the club.
Keenan has recovered from swine flu to resume training with the squad whilst Gough continues to struggle on the sidelines with a back problem that is hoped will clear in over the next few weeks.
Manager Gary Norton and his backroom team of Martin Rowe and Simon Van-de-Broucke have said that they are pleased with the way the squad is shaping up but still have 3 or 4 other targets in mind that will strengthen key areas of the squad.
Norton said: "We have a squad of around 15 or 16 at the moment but the frustrating thing has been getting everyone together at the same time for training.
"Holidays, injuries, illnesses and work commitments have proven to be a bit of a pain so far as they often do at this time of year but having said that things are starting to take shape nicely.
"Martin (Rowe) Simon (Van-de-broucke) and I are happy with the way things are going but we still have some work to do in key areas of the squad over the next few weeks and have 3 or 4 targets in mind that we would ideally like to bring in."
