Gary Norton Marathon Man
Hi All,
I'm looking for support from people connected with the club to again help me raise money for Charity by sponsoring me to run this year's Flora London Marathon.
Raising funds for Cancer charities is something dear to the hearts of my family and I since Pancreatic Cancer claimed the life of my mother Sandra in 2003. I'm looking for support from people connected with the club to again help me raise money for Charity by sponsoring me to run this year's Flora London Marathon.
As you will know, Cancer is a common disease that affects many people and most of us will know someone directly who has been affected by Cancer in some way.
Fundraising efforts over the past few years have seen me run a few half marathons as well as do a few other smaller events, which have raised around £5000 in the process.
Running the London marathon has always been a lifetime ambition of mine ever since I watched it on TV as a small boy but its one of those challenges that I never seem to have got around to doing through being so busy with other things in my life.
I've thought about it more and more in the last couple of years and in a moment of madness last year I applied for a place on the Macmillan fundraising team.
The fact that I can fulfil a lifelong ambition and at the same time raise money for a worthy cause makes the challenge one that I'm relishing (and starting to panic about!!).
The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday April 26th, which is the day after the 6th anniversary of my mothers passing, and with your help I'm determined to complete the event and raise a minimum of £3000 for the Macmillan Cancer Support Team.
In reality, I've never really been into running and to be honest training for the marathon hasn't been going smoothly! I've picked up a couple of injures from playing football over the last couple of months and recently had a chest virus which has put my training for the event back somewhat.
However, I'm building up the miles again now and am determined to somehow make it around the 26.2 mile course come the 26th April - even if I end up crawling over the line at the end.
I'd be very appreciative if you would consider sponsoring me for the run.
As well as the traditional method of sponsorship forms which I've started to pass round, I've also just set up a Justgiving fundraising page to give people the opportunity to sponsor me the modern way!!!
It is located at http://www.justgiving.com/garynorton
Donating by debit or credit card through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It's also the most efficient way to sponsor me. Macmillan Cancer Support gets your money faster and, if you're a taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post. Please consider sponsoring me for the Marathon and at the same time help raise money for a very worthy cause.
Many thanks
Gary Norton,
1st Team Manager,
Gresley Rovers Football Club
