Hood Returns To The Moat
Jamie Hood

Jamie Hood

Jamie Hood has returned to Gresley Rovers from Blue Square North outfit Hinckley United on a permanent deal to the end of the season.
The former Rovers captain recently transferred to Hinckley but only made only two appearances for the Leicestershire based club. The deal is expected to be complete in time for Hood to be included in the Rovers squad for tomorrow's game against Grantham Town

Manager Gary Norton commented: "Jamie had a baptism of fire at Hinckley. He was thrown in at the deep end when he made his debut in the Boxing Day derby match against Nuneaton Borough but it didn't go to well and he was at fault for a couple of the goals. In fairness to him it was his first game since he was sent off for us against Goole on November the 6th so he probably wasn't as match fit as he could have been but non the less, the start he had there made life a little difficult for him."

He added: "Since then he's been on the fringe of things and not been playing having been on the bench. Hinckley contacted us earlier this week about taking Jamie back on loan until the end of the season but if Jamie was going to return we wanted the move to be a permanent one. We met with Jamie at training last night (Thurs) and he confirmed that he too would like to return on a permanent deal and he very much wanted to get back to enjoying his football again. He told us last night that he thinks he made a mistake in leaving the club during the season as at the time he was revelling in the role of captain, playing well and enjoying his football although he did miss our last few games before he left through illness and suspension. He is delighted to be back at Gresley and cant wait to get involved and I'm sure our supporters will welcome him back with open arms."

In a double boost Norton also confirmed that the influential Leigh Platnauer would remain a Gresley Rovers player "for the foreseeable future at least".

He added: "We are also delighted with the news that Plats will remain with us for the foreseeable future. He has been magnificent in his time with us so far and speaking to him earlier in the week he indicated he was very happy here and wanted to stay. We had been nervous that Hinckley may want to tempt him back after they played him in a midweek game at left back where he was outstanding. However we maintained with Hinckley all along that it was our wish to keep Leigh at Gresley and we tried to use this as part of the deal that brought Jamie back. Thankfully, Dean Thomas has today signed a new defender and as a result confirmed that Leigh can remain with us for the time being. He will remain with us on non-contract terms which will allow him to return to Hinckley should they need him in an injury crisis situation."

"This, on top of the news earlier in the week that we secured Miles Chaimberlain on contract after his transfer from Eastwood Town, means that our squads defensive options have been significantly improved in the last few days"
