New Assistant Manager Appointed
Steve Hinks
Gresley Rovers have this week re-appointed Steve Hinks as Assistant Manager to Gary Norton at the Moat Ground following the departure of Mick Curry last week. Tony Hemmings remains as 1st Team Player Coach.
Manager Gary Norton commented: "Steve's appointment will no doubt raise a few eyebrows at the club but I have absolutely no doubt whatsoever that his return will prove to be a positive and fruitful one. Steve left the club three seasons ago to take up new challenges but we remained close and have kept in regular contact ever since and I always said that we would work together again at some point in time. We had a few options to consider but in truth Steve was always my preferred choice as Mick's replacement. "We have spoken several times at length during the last week and have had excellent meetings between my coach Tony Hemmings and myself in the last few days to talk about many things including our plans and expectations before agreeing to bring him back on board. Steve has been linked with a couple of jobs as a number one of late but he gave assurances to the chairman and myself that he is 100% committed to the club for the rest of the season at which time all parties will review the situation.
"The club have recently lost a great asset in Mick Curry but I am very pleased we have got Steve on board to replace him. He has learnt a lot since his last time here and has developed himself in all aspects. He is not only an excellent coach and motivator but has a good network of contacts in the game, particularly in the catchment area 30-40 miles south of the club, which is an area we have struggled to get a foothold in regarding the recruitment of new players of late."
Norton added "Steve is delighted to be back at Gresley Rovers and cant wait to get started."
