More Players Sign
Manager Gary Norton has signed six more players to his squad for the new season.
Right-back Dan Douglas and central defender Martyn Rowntree, who were at the club last season, along with former Kidsgrove Athletic defenders Adam Barradell and Adam Thorley have all signed.Another signing is 17-year-old Bernard Finkle, who scored Rovers' goal in the 1-1 draw with Stourbridge on Saturday, and experienced striker Karl Payne.
Norton said of his recent signings: "Bernard is only 17 and is raw, but we think he has got something and he will probably be one of those who starts the season in the reserves.
"Karl Payne will probably not be in the frame immediately, but he is very versatile, very experienced and very fit for his age.
"The new signings will provide a healthy competition for places in the starting eleven which has to be good.
"The pleasing thing is that all of those who have signed are within the budget and we are getting guys in who want to play for Gresley, are committed and are not in it for the money."
Three more triallists that have caught the eye of the manager are midfielders Chris Sleath, Liam Shirley and Lee Kinsett.
Shirley has been training with Ilkeston Town and looks almost certain to be made an offer after impressing against Stourbridge on Saturday.
Said Norton: "Liam did very well. He has not had too much football and he tired a bit, but he looked very assured and comfortable on the ball.
"He is six-foot tall and we don't really have any height in midfield. He will start tonight and we will look to see what he can do against Hednesford.
"However, based on what he did in the first 20, 25 minutes on Saturday, he would have to have a personal disaster for us not to offer him anything.
"All three of the guys we had not seen before showed something.
"Chris Sleath has not played for two months having just come back from Malaysia, but he reminded me very much of his brother Danny, while Lee Kinsett also did quite well."
Norton is still searching for a central defender and is in talks with former Moatman Jamie Hood who has had pre-season games at Nuneaton Borough. Strikers are also on the manager's list as he tries to strengthen the front line.
