Two leave the Moat
Winger Mark Smith has left the Moat Ground to join highflying Matlock Town.
The Gladiators were allowed to speak to Smith following their seven days' notice of approach which expired after Tuesday's postponed Derbyshire Senior Cup semi-final.Smith, who joined the Gresley from Buxton at the beginning of November, scored the winner on his debut in the 2-1 victory at Ossett Albion after coming on as a second-half substitute.
He made 20 appearances and scored three goals.
Manager Gary Norton said: "I am disappointed to lose Mark. His form had dipped of late, but on Saturday he was back to near the form he displayed when he first joined us. He saw the move as too good an opportunity and I am not one to stand in the way of players wanting to play at a higher level."
Also leaving the Moat Ground is keeper Tommy Whittle who was replaced as the first choice keeper by former Corby Town's David Clarke for the Belper game.
Said Norton: "I am disappointed that he did not want to stick around and fight for the shirt. At the sight of the first bit of competition he has had since he's been here, he has decided to leave, which surprised me.
"He has not had any competition for most of the season and he was nowhere near last season in terms of his level of performance."
