Gary completes half marathon
Gary Norton completes the half marathon
Gresley Rovers manager Gary Norton took time out of preparations for the coming season and completed the Mansfield Half Marathon in sweltering conditions on Sunday. The run was to raise funds on behalf of the fund set up for local local Multiple Sclerosis sufferer Des Brown.
37-year-old Mr Brown was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) seven years ago and is now confined to a wheel chair and has blurred vision and speech problems. The fund has been set up to try and raise the £12,000 needed to enable Des to become the first person in Burton to undergo revolutionary stem cell treatment abroad. He is hoping that controversial stem treatment will improve his quality of life. Gary completed the run in just over 2 hours and hopes the event will raise in the region of £1000. He commented: "I would like to thank everyone who has pledged sponsorship for the event for their generosity. We only anticipated raising in the region of £500 but with pledges still coming in we are hopeful to be pushing towards the £1000 mark which will be fantastic and will very much help Desmond's cause."
Anyone wishing to pledge a belated donation towards the final total can still do so by emailing details to sponsorgary@gresleyrovers.com.
