Bass Vase game cancelled
Mark Evans
Both teams, referee and Gresley officials agreed to call off Wednesday's game between Gresley Rovers and Notts County in the Bass Vase.
Extensive pitch repairs have been carried out during the close season including improved drainage, seeding and turf laying.Unfortunately the new turf has failed to knit into the ground below resulting in loose
areas that the referee thought was too dangerous for both teams to play on.
Chairman Mark Evans said: " We are very disappointed for both the sides, the supporters who had turned up to watch a match and the Bass Vase organisers but it was not possible for the match to be played."
"Work will now be carried out as a matter of urgency to have the pitch playable for the start of the new season."
Tonight's postponed match will now be played on Friday 27th July at Burton Albion's Ground KO 7.30pm.
The match against West Bromwich Albion scheduled for 30th July at the Moat Ground has yet to be re-arranged.
Also today, Mark Evans revealed that the club will be announcing new sponsors for the first team, reserves, youth, ladies and junior teams shortly.
