Gary runs for charity
Gary Norton
For the third year running Gresley Rovers' manager Gary Norton will be swapping his football boots for trainers as he takes part in the Mansfield Half Marathon on July 3rd to raise money for a Cancer charity.
Norton sadly lost his mother Sandra in April 2003 to the disease and has run the event each year since to raise funds for cancer related charities. In 2003 and 2004 the Marie Curie Cancer Care organisation was the nominated charity and this year the Cancer Research charity will benefit. Commenting on the event Gary said: "Raising money for cancer related charities is something I do every year in memory of my late mother Sandra. Cancer touches the lives of so many and raising funds for it's related organisations are something close to the hearts of many, many people. The generosity of everyone in supporting me in my previous runs has been excellent and I'm very much hoping it will be the same again this time round. Some of the Gresley supporters have joined in to help me get sponsors and many of the players and other people connected with the club as well as my friends and family are helping too. Our aim is to again raise at least £1000 for the cause so if anyone can help us in terms of sponsoring the event then it would be very much appreciated."
Anyone willing to sponsor Gary for the run can send cheques made payable to "Cancer Research" direct to Moat Ground, Moat Street, Church Gresley, Swadlincote, Derbyshire, DE11 9RE or leave a message via the forum on www.gresleyrovers.com
