Gary Browne signs for the Moat Men
Former Northern Ireland U21 international Gary Browne has signed for Gresley Rovers.
Browne was released by Nationwide Conference Worksop in late December as due to cost cutting. He had signed for Belper Town just prior to manager Gary Hayward resigning from the Nailors and it was indeed Hayward who tipped Manager Gary Norton off as to his availability. Rotherham based Browne spent 4 years at Manchester City before being released in the summer of 2003 to join York City. From there he had a spell in Holland with RKVS Leonidas before returning to the UK to link up with Worksop at the start of this season.
Norton said of Browne: "Gary is a player of proven ability and quality and will inject something different into our squad that we are currently lacking. He had scored 9 times for Worksop in the Conference North this season mainly from midfield. When he was at City he operated mainly as a forward but is equally comfortable on the right or left of midfield. He can use both feet which is a bonus as he can maybe give us that bit of cover we need on the left we have lacked in recent weeks when key players have been out. He trained with the squad last night and will go straight into the squad for our game on Saturday."
