Staveley pre-match news
Gresley Rovers travel to face Staveley Miners Welfare in the 2nd round of the Derbyshire Senior Cup tonight (7.45pm).
Manager Gary Norton is keen to progress in the competition and names an almost full strength squad for the trip. Skipper Matt Smith will be rested tonight to protect his troublesome back and Reserve team keeper James Pemberton gets another taste of first team action in goal. Norton hinted that he may switch things around to give the likes of Andy Marlowe and Shaun Gummer a start so that he can rest one or two by switching them to the bench. Strong favourite to start from the bench is top scorer Aaron O'Connor who has been playing with a slight injury during recent games.
Norton commented: "After three great league results we now turn our attentions to the cups with the Derbyshire Senior Cup tonight, FA Trophy on Saturday followed by League Cup next week. The Derbyshire Senior Cup is obviously our lowest priority behind the league and the other cups but I still want us to do well in it. The fact that I'm sending pretty much a full first team squad highlights how much I want to progress to the next round.
"It's a banana skin for us without doubt and we need to approach the game in the right manner to make sure we give ourselves the best chance possible. Even if one or two players are not in the right frame of mind then we will find ourselves with a problem. Staveley command respect. They are mid table and have done reasonably well recently. I'm sure all their players will be up for causing an upset. They are the underdogs and have nothing to lose. We were two divisions below Hucknall and caused them a lot of problems in the FA Cup so there's no reason why Staveley will not look to do the same to us tonight."
