Major set back for Rovers
Ian Bluck

Ian Bluck

Gresley Rovers have suffered a major setback to their plans with the news that defender Ian Bluck will be out of action for 6 to 8 weeks with the ankle injury sustained in the 2nd minute of last nights mixed XI friendly at Banks Premier division Tividale.
The match featuring a number of fringe players ended in a 3-3 draw with the Rovers goals coming from trialist Emeka Ejiofor, Jonathon Rowe and Nathan Tate but the result was insignificant in light of the injury sustained by Bluck.

The injury occurred when Bluck went in for a challenge on the edge of his box and fell awkwardly and had to be stretched from the pitch. He was taken by ambulance to Hospital accompanied by Manager Gary Norton amid fears of a broken ankle. Later x-ray results revealed no break but quite severe lateral ligament damage..

Manager Norton commented. "We are all absolutely gutted for Ian. He more than anyone deserves some luck on the injury front after his problems over the last couple of seasons. He worked extremely hard to get himself back in shape at the end of last season and continued that work in pre-season. He's obviously very down at the moment but despite things looking bleak for him at the moment I've no doubt in my mind that he will be back in next to no time. We will get him the best treatment possible and take things from there."

Jamie Hood also limped out of the action with a knee injury giving Norton a potential defensive injury crisis. Norton added "Jamie has had a slight knee problem for a while but we were advised that the close season rest would resolve the problem but it doesn't appear to have been the case. He can play on it but its obviously not right so I would rather not take risks so close to the start of the season. We are trying to get Jamie in for a scan to assess things and until then we will take things with a degree of caution in mind.
