Leek Town pre-match news
Gresley Rovers begin their pre-season games with a trip to UniBond Premier side Leek Town - KO 12 noon.
Manager Gary Norton has included 3 of his four new signings, Justin Rowe, Andy Simpson and Sean Gummer. Aaron O'Connor, Norton's fourth signing, is away on holiday. Also missing will be Matt Smith, Ian Bluck, Jamie Hood and Richard Wardle.Norton will also be including a few trialists including Justin Rowe's brothers Jonathan and Donovan. Jonathan was very highly thought of by the Telford boss Mick Jones who was going to offer him a full-time contract.
Former Gresley and Burton Albion striker Karl Payne could also feature along with ex-Bedworth United winger Chris Goodman, keeper James Pemberton and centre back Mark Leeson.
Norton said: " At the end of last season we had a list of players we'd like to have at the club and I'm delighted to have got four of them.
"We have four games in the next seven days and we will be using them to take a look at the trialists but we may need a bit more experience in the squad.
"It seems ages since we finished last season and tomorrow will be a chance to get the lads back into the swing of things and for the new lads to begin to gel with their new team mates.
"The lads have worked really hard over the last three weeks doing some foundation fitness work. Last night (Thurs) was the first time they trained with footballs.
"On paper it looks like we have a decent side, now, we will see how they gel together and the friendlies give me a chance to look at people playing in different positions as we have a lot of versatility in the squad. Tomorrow will be a bit of a loosener before the Base Vase games next week."
