Norton's Marathon Run
Gary Norton
Gresley Rovers manager Gary Norton swapped football boots for trainers at the weekend as he completed the Mansfield half marathon for Charity.
Norton, 30, sadly lost his mother Sandra last April to Cancer and running the event for the second year to raise funds for the Marie Curie Cancer Care appeal. The Moat boss finished the event in a respectable 1hr 47 minutes and the Charity now look set to benefit again to the tune of over £1000. Commenting on the event Gary said "The generosity of everyone in supporting my charity run has been excellent and I'm delighted to have been able to raise so far over £1000. The exact amount will not be known until after our pre- season Bass Vase game against Burton Albion where we will hold a blanket collection for the appeal at half time.
"I'm hopeful the final total will be near to the £1400 raised from last years event. Much of the amount raised was via the kind sponsorship of people involved with the Club and I'd like to pay a special thanks to those people as well as all the friends and family who sponsored me for the event"
Chairman Mark Evans added "Gary naturally takes this event and the cause for which he runs it very seriously and has throughout the summer trained very hard, not only to finish the distance but to complete it in a respectable time. I am very pleased that he has again raised so much money. With the sad lost of his mother last April this cause is very much at Gary's heart".
