Rovers look for Sunday best

Gresley Rovers player-manager John McGinlay says Sunday's clash with Cinderford Town will be the most important of the season for the Dr Martens Western Division club.
Rovers found themselves on the wrong end of two 1-0 score lines last week as they were beaten at home by Tiverton on Saturday before being rolled over at Weston- super-Mare.

And they face another gruelling schedule this weekend with an away trip to top-six Redditch before a crunch clash with fellow strugglers Cinderford Town who took three points from Racing Club Warwick last night.

"They are going to be two very tough games," said Scotsman McGinlay. "Looking past the Redditch game, Cinderford has got to be our biggest match of the season. But not only do we play them on Sunday, we play them on the final afternoon at our ground. And although I've moaned about the fixture pile-up, I do feel that's the one thing that'll count against Cinderford because they've suffered more than most."

And McGinlay has been boosted off the field too with news keeper Mark Shiels has pledged his future to the club until the end of next season.

Said McGinlay: "I've already talked to six players about their futures here and Mark was the first to come back to me. He's done very well for us and knows there's a future here for him. I've spoken to five other lads and we hope to conclude some of those contracts over the weekend. And with any luck there'll be more on the way sometime next week. Although there's plenty of football yet to be played this year, I've already got one eye on next season and I think we're building a sound platform for success at the Moat Ground".
