Rovers FA Cup draw

Gresley Rovers face the tantalising prospect of an opening FA Cup skirmish against the second best team in non-league football next season.
The Moatmen, preparing for their first season of Beazer Premier Division football, have been drawn away to Bromsgrove Rovers in the first qualifying round on September 11th.

Bromsgrove, managed by former Burton Albion boss Bobby Hope, finished runners-up to Wycombe Wanderers in their first season of GM Vauxhall Conference football.

Rovers’ boss Steve Dolby was not available for comment today but is likely to relish the prospect of a trip to the Victoria Ground.

Burton Albion, meanwhile, were celebrating a home tie against Beazer Premier rivals Moor Green.

Manager Brian Kenning said: “Last season we started off with a very tough tie at Leek, so it’s nice to be drawn at Eton Park.”

Albion have the incentive of a second qualifying round home tie against lesser opposition – Sandwell Borough, Stewarts & Lloyds or Stratford Town.

Gresley’s reward for a shock win at Bromsgrove will also be a home tie against one of three former Beazer Midland rivals – Bedworth, Bilston or Bridgnorth.

In the preliminary round, Rocester are at home to Rushden & Diamonds, while Armitage’s first-ever FA Cup tie will be at home to Banbury United.

There is good and bad news for Albion in the FA Trophy in which Gresley make the first appearance for many years after being promoted from the FA Vase.

Albion’s poor record since they reached the 1987 final has finally cost them their exemption and they must play in the opening round for the first time since 1979.

Happily, the Trophy campaign starts off at Eton Park – against former Northern Premier League sparring partners Caernarfon Town. The winners face a tough second qualifying round trip to Rushden & Diamonds who Albion visit in a pre-season friendly.

Gresley make their Trophy return against Northern Premier Leaguers Goole Town at the Moat Ground. Victory will earn them another home tie against Dudley Town or Mossley.
