New faces at the Moat Ground
Manager Gary Norton has begun to bring in the new faces he promised after Gresley’s poor start to the season. Norton’s first newcomer is 19-year-old Gareth Holmes who has been signed on loan from UniBond Premier Division side Hucknall Town.
Holmes, who was not signed in time to be eligible for this afternoon's FA Cup preliminary round clash with Buxton, was with Hucknall boss Steve Burr when he was in charge at Nuneaton Borough having previously been with Derby County. Norton said: " We needed an experienced midfielder and Gareth has that experience playing in the Conference with Nuneaton. He’s the type of player who goes from box-to-box. He is on the fringes at Hucknall and Steve Burr is happy for him to come to Gresley – it is an open-ended deal at the moment."
A striker could also be on his way to the Moat Ground with Norton agreeing, in principle, to a loan deal with a Football League club.
Norton refused to name the player until the deal had been finalised, but he is hoping to have him available for the trip to Stourport Swifts next Saturday.
Should Rovers progress in the FA Cup Norton is hoping to negotiate with the club involved to obtain permission to play him in the competition.
Norton is also looking at two goalkeepers and is hoping to bring one of them to the club.
