Gray and White sign
Gary White and Chris Gray with Maria Britton
A big boost for Gresley Rovers has come in the signatures of two of their star players.
Midfielder Chris Gray, the club's leading goal scorer last term, had been tracked by several clubs during the close season with Solihull Borough, Sutton Coldfield and Coalville all interested in signing him but he has decided to stay at the Moat Ground for a third season.Gary White, a 20 year-old defender, was one of last season's squad expected to leave the Moat ground for football at a higher level. White was signed by Jon Newsome last summer and had trials with both Crewe Alexandra and Bradford City during last season. He too has decided to stay at Gresley after turning down an offer from Worcester City.
Chairman Mark Evans said: "I'm absolutely delighted that Chris and Gary have decided to stay at the club. Both have turned down offers of either more money or the chance to play at a higher level.
"It shows just how highly regarded this club is by players and it reflects well on the players, demonstrating they are prepared to play for what they believe in and not necessarily for money.
"It shows we've had a very good pre-season despite not having made a managerial appointment. At the end of the day, so far – and I know there's still a long way to go before the season starts – the only players who have chosen to move on are those who indicated at the end of last season that that is what they would do.
"Both Gary and Chris are good dressing room people and both have pride in their work and I'm pleased they have both agreed to stay on."
