Rovers in ground discussions
The board of Gresley Rovers have announced that they are in talks with the Moat Ground’s landlord Six Continents concerning the option to purchase the ground.
Gresley moved to the Moat Ground in September 1909 from their previous home a few yards away in Church Street and are eager to purchase the ground to secure the club’s future and to give them a major asset.Chairman Mark Evans said: “It has been the policy of the Club in recent years to inform wherever possible our members and supporters of any matters that have a bearing on the future of the Club.
“It was vital several seasons ago that we secured a lease on the Moat Ground, something that had been previously left in abeyance. The lease was secured and along with it a relationship with our landlord that was both positive and forward thinking.
“We have now commenced discussions with our landlord concerning an option we have to purchase the Moat Ground. Such a purchase would secure our tenure at the Moat Ground.
“At a board meeting last week we discussed the purchase at length and unanimously agreed to proceed to formal discussions. This may well raise again the question of moving to a new ground. But I repeat that we are simply in the very early stages of purchasing our existing ground. If we agree a price with our landlord then we will have to look at raising the money to buy it.”
