Rovers’ midweek victory over Bilston Town – their fifth consecutive league win and part of an unbeaten run of eight games stretching back to February – helped ease the pain of Saturday’s Vase defeat by Bridlington and left Dolby with a clear promotion target for his team.

Said the Moat supremo: “We’ve got 11 games left and I think seven wins – 21 points – will get us promotion. Having said that, I want the title. I don’t think it’s beyond us and I certainly wouldn’t have any qualms about stepping up a division next season.

“Going in the Premier Division is not as daunting a prospect as you might think. We’ve played Burton twice this year and I think we compare with them – and they’re in the top eight and doing well. We obviously wouldn’t make the same impact as we have in this league but I think we would win as many games as we lost.

“I wouldn’t have any qualms – as long as people don’t expect us to continue on the run of success that’s been going on and on. We’d have to build a team to win the Premier Division but that wouldn’t necessarily be that hard. To begin with we’d have to bring in possibly two or three players but I don’t think the ones we’ve got have found their level yet.

“We were the best side in the West Midlands League and I believe we’re the best side in the Beazer Midland Division – if not the best then we’ve certainly proved we’re as good as anyone else. I had my doubts, I thought Nuneaton were stronger but our performance and the result we got there last week proved me wrong on that.”

Rovers are due to start their countdown with a trip to Evesham tomorrow with Dolby warning: “No game has been easy for us yet this season and I don’t expect any to be easy before the end of the season. We beat Evesham 5-0 earlier in the season yet I thought they were one of the better sides we’d played. They matched us for football in the first half but we got the run of the ball and scored two goals with shots from outside the box, although we did play very well after half time.

“The whole league is full of teams that can shock you on their day – every side is capable of doing well and you can’t underestimate anyone. But we’ve done well for three-quarters of the season and we’ve got to make sure we do it for the last quarter.

“I’m sure our supporters are going to back us right to the end of the season and beyond. They’ve been tremendous all year and while I can understand their disappointment after we went out of the Vase. I’m sure they weren’t building their whole season around the possibility of going to Wembley. We’ve got an average league gate of more than 600 and I fully expect those supporters to keep backing us.”
