Rovers through but lack polish

Gresley Rovers gained not-so-sweet revenge for last season’s FA Vase defeat by dumping Newcastle Town out of the FA Cup on Saturday.
But it was a display that fell below Rovers’ recent standards, with manager Steve Dolby admitting: “We weren’t happy with our performance. It was a scrappy, physical game with a bobbly pitch and a strong wind making things difficult, and we allowed them to out battle us a little bit in the first half. We got caught square far too often.“But we got back on top after half time and were very pleased with the result – and it’s the result that counts in the Cup.”
Rovers now face HFS Loans outfit Gainsborough in the Second Qualifying Round on September 26th at the Moat Ground with Dolby saying: “There should be a good crowd for that one and a good atmosphere – something there was none of at Newcastle. We’ve got a good record against Northern Prem sides so we’ve got to fancy our chances of going a step further.”
